Sending a thank-you email after an interview is a small step that many candidates skip. It shows good manners, reminds the interviewer of your strengths, and gives you a chance to add anything you forgot to mention.
When to send it
Send your email within 24 hours of the interview — ideally the same day. If you met several people, send each one a short, slightly different message, or one email to the main contact thanking the whole panel.
What to include
- 1A clear subject line: "Thank you — [Job Title] interview".
- 2Thanks for their time, mentioning the role.
- 3One specific thing you discussed and enjoyed.
- 4A brief reminder of why you are a strong fit.
- 5Enthusiasm for the next steps.
Standard thank-you email template
Subject: Thank you — Marketing Executive interview
Dear Ms Khan,
Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today about the Marketing Executive role. I especially enjoyed hearing about your plans to expand the brand into Saudi Arabia.
Our conversation confirmed my enthusiasm for the role. My experience running regional social campaigns — including one that grew engagement by 60% — would help support that launch.
I look forward to hearing about the next steps. Please let me know if I can provide anything further.
Kind regards, Ayesha Raza

Template: adding something you forgot
Thank you again for the interview yesterday. When we discussed reporting, I forgot to mention that I built our team's Power BI dashboard, which replaced six manual reports. I have attached a short anonymised example in case it is helpful.
Following up if you hear nothing
If the employer gave a decision date and it passes, wait two or three working days and then send a short, polite follow-up. If no date was given, wait about a week.
Dear Mr Ahmed, I hope you are well. I wanted to follow up on my interview for the Operations Coordinator role on 12 October. I remain very interested and would be grateful for any update on the timeline. Kind regards, Bilal
