The professional summary — also called a CV profile or personal statement — is a short paragraph under your name that tells the reader who you are and why you are a strong fit. Recruiters often decide whether to read the rest of your CV based on these few lines.
Below is a simple formula followed by examples for different roles and career stages. Adapt them with your own facts — never copy a summary word for word.
The four-part summary formula
- 1Who you are: job title + years of experience (or degree for graduates).
- 2What you are best at: two or three skills that match the job.
- 3Proof: one measurable achievement.
- 4What you want: the type of role or the value you will bring.
Keep it to three or four sentences (50–100 words), drop the word "I", and update it for each job you apply for.
